Nancy Sorrow Myrick, 88, of Watkinsville, died Sunday, May 31, 2015.
Born in Stephens, GA, she was the daughter of the late Bose and Kate Coe Sorrow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, James W. Myrick, Sr.; and her son-in-law, Jeff Gearhart.
Mrs. Myrick spent most of her early life in Augusta, before moving to the Athens area in 1967. She worked for several years at the University of Georgia, before retiring in 1975. Mrs. Myrick was a very active member of Tuckston United Methodist Church, having been a member of many of the organizations there.
Survivors include her children, James (Mary) Myrick, Jr. and Kathy Gearhart; two sisters, Betty Sorrow Cawley and Shirley Sorrow Prescott; one granddaughter, Michelle Gearhart; one great-granddaughter, Brittany Baker, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Lord and Stephens, East with Rev. Bill Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tuckston United Methodist Church's Coworkers Sunday School Class, Aerobics Class, Senior Citizens Club and the Bridge Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coworkers Sunday School Class at Tuckston United Methodist Church, 4175 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605 or the First Christian Church of Athens, 268 W Dougherty Street, Athens, GA 30601.
