Montine Davis

On July 31, 2026, beloved wife and mother, Mary Montine Davis, passed away surrounded by her family at her home. She was born on October. 11, 1945, in Athens, Georgia, to the late Robert and Mary Ann Seagraves. Montine’s family were members of Gordon’s Chapel Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Ann Davis; sister, Kitty Seagraves Payne; and nephew, Barry Fitzpatrick. Montine is survived by her husband of almost 63 years and boyfriend since the 8th grade, Robert M. Davis; daughter, Amy (Joyce); son Ben (Jessica); and grandchildren Brittney (Corey) Devereux; Jordan Butler; Wyatt Davis, and Lydia Julie Davis; and nieces Susan Boswell and Donna Sisk.

Montine grew up in the Sanford Community in Madison County and spent many summer days swimming in Seagraves Lake. She graduated from Madsion County High School in the class of 1963. Her multifaceted working life began and ended in the same building on the corner of Clayton and Lumpkin Streets in Athens. Her first job was at the C&S Bank in its former location on the corner of Clayton and Lumpkin. After years with the Cooperative Extension Service in Toccoa, she became an administrative assistant at The University of Georgia with the Executive MBA Program, which was housed in the former C&S Bank on that familiar corner. In 2006, Montine retired.

In 1998, Montine and Robert moved from Toccoa back home to Madison County and bought several acres of land and a farmhouse built in 1930 and spent a year renovating and remodeling that house. It was a true labor of love that Montine was so proud of. The yards came alive with her love of gardening, which was evidenced by the long lives of plants in her care, some of whom lived for forty years and many who live on to this day. She also enjoyed tending and decorating Robert’s and her house with family heirlooms, knick-knacks she collected along travels to the mountains and many antique stores, lots of photos, more plants, and a large collection of angels.

Montine’s greatest joy, however, was becoming Mimi and spending time with her children and grandchildren who miss her profoundly.

A visitation will be at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Danielsville on Saturday, August 1st, from 6:00PM-8:00PM.

A memorial service is planned for Montine at Gordon’s Chapel Methodist Church in Sanford Community on the Nowhere Road at 2:00PM on Sunday, August 2nd.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Montine’s name to Dementia Society of America.
