Michael Wesley Denton stepped into his Heavenly Home on February 16, 2026.
Mr. Denton was born in Augusta, Georgia, on November 21, 1947, to parents, Jeannette Coile Denton and Walter Carl Denton of Crawford, Georgia.
Mr. Denton served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Campaign, receiving many honors, including The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service from May, 1969 to May, 1970, in Vietnam. He later served in Germany and other stations abroad, receiving many overseas bars.
Michael Denton retired from the Hardware Industry, with awards as a sales professional. His personal qualities of integrity and mild manners served him in all his well-deserved achievements.
Michael Denton is best remembered for his love of family, community, and church family. He was a faithful member of Living Hope Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia, with an intense appreciation for his Men’s Bible Study Group. Micheal also enjoyed Gospel music, having been a member of a Gospel quartet for many years. He had served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Leader throughout most of his life.
Many, in Mike’s neighborhood of Shoal Creek Farms in Athens, grew to deeply respect Mike’s character and pleasant demeanor. After retirement, Mr. Denton was called upon to accompany the elderly, housesit, care for animals, and drive many shut-in neighbors to their doctor’s appointments. Never idle, he will be missed by all blessed by his presence.
Michael Denton is survived by two sons, John Garrick Denton of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Keven Champe Strange of Carrollton, Georgia, along with many cousins, distant relatives and devoted friends.
