Mary Ethel McElhannon

Mary Ethel McElhannon, 77, died December 13, 2022.

A native of Louisville, Ky, she was a daughter of the late Clifford Croft and Mary Catherine Frerman Croft. Mary was also preceded in death by a son, David McElhannon, II, and a brother, Joe Croft.

Mary was a retired nurse having worked at Athens General Hospital as Head Nurse of General Surgery for many years. She took time off to raise her children before returning to school at Medical College of Georgia, where she graduated in 1996 as a Nurse Practitioner. She then worked in the office of Dr. Farris Johnson until her retirement. Mary was instrumental in developing the Homeless Clinic in Athens and was a member of the UGA Catholic Center.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the UGA Catholic Center. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Survivors include three children, Becky (Louis) Panuski of Davidson, NC, Andy (Michelle) McElhannon of Watkinsville and Jay McElhannon of Athens; daughter-in-law, Karin McElhannon of Roseland, NJ; sister, Ginger James of Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Christopher, Benjamin, Lily, Thomas, Finn, Drew and Caroline.
