Mary Jane Martin

Jane entered the world on March 7, 1935, and left on September 28, 2026. During the 33,443 days of her "dash," she certainly made the most of her life and left her mark on many people.

Jane graduated from Fabius Central High School as the valedictorian of her class. She attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse, where she met Robert Martin. They married in 1956, and from this union, one daughter, Laurie, was born; they later divorced.

She began her career with the Bell System in New York, transferring to Cheyenne, Wyoming, when her husband was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. She started as a service representative and took every opportunity to rise within the company. She served as the state employment manager and ultimately retired from Mountain Bell/US West in 1985.

Jane was a pioneer in spirit. After retiring, she enjoyed time traveling, hunting, and fishing with her longtime companion, Bob. She loved a good home project and making something out of nothing. Her greatest passion was her two grandsons. She was always up for anything they were involved in, and spending time with them brought her immense joy. Jane had a large presence in many people's hearts; her offbeat sense of humor, genuine kindness, and goodness were undeniable. She never had to try to be anything other than herself to be loved and respected. She was everything to her family and has left us to carry on her legacy: to do good when you can, let go of past hurts, be slow to anger, and always be appreciative of those you hold dear.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Laurie Martin of Watkinsville, Georgia; grandsons, Scott Barajas of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Matthew Graham of Hull, Georgia; brother, Ed Heffernan and his wife, Florence, of Crescent City, Florida; sister, Judith Butler and her husband, Dave, of Nassau, New York; two nieces; two nephews; and one great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward J. and Bessie Heffernan; her nephew, Kenneth Heffernan; and her companion of many years, Bob Deniston.
