Mary Green Hale

Mary Green Hale, 95, of Athens Georgia passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, while surrounded by family. Born August 14, 1930, to A.W. Green Sr. and Lula Belle Thompson Green.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was defined by love, service, and dedication to others. She attended Mars Hill College before graduating as a Registered Nurse from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. She spent many years serving her community as a nurse, dedicating her career to caring for others and helping educate the next generation of nurses. Her compassion and commitment to her profession touched countless lives throughout the years.

Mary was a longtime member of East Athens Baptist Church, where her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Abe Lincoln Hale Sr.; her parents A.W. Green Sr. and Lula Belle Thompson Green; her brothers, James Green (Helen) and A.W. Green Jr.; and her daughter, Margie Ann Spearman.

She is survived by her daughter, Lorey Reeves; son, Abe Lincoln Hale Jr.; and her son, Michael B. Hale Sr. (Margaret).

She leaves behind a loving family that includes her grandchildren, Michelle Poole (Charles), Sommer Ingram, Meredith Busch, Michael Bradford Hale Jr., and Elizabeth Farrington (Jordan); her great-granddaughters, Bailey Morris, Celsey Ochoa (Jesus), Ava Poole, Emma Kate Burger, and Josey Sorrells; and her great-great-granddaughter Stephanie Ochoa. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and other loved ones who will cherish her memory.

Mary had a rare gift for making people feel as though they belonged. She treated everyone like family, whether they were related by blood or simply fortunate enough to cross her path. Her kindness, compassion, and genuine love for others left an impression on everyone who knew her.

She will be remembered for her caring heart, her dedication to nursing, her love for her family, and the many lives she touched throughout her 95 years. Her legacy will live on through the generations of family she leaves behind and through the countless people she cared for.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 3:30 pm at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, East.
