Athens - Mary Haines Thomas, 84, wife of the late John Dean Thomas, Sr., died Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Battle Creek, MI, she was the daughter of the late Harold Thomas and Edna Norton Haines. Since 1964, Mrs. Thomas and her family have been owners of a number of Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchises in Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC. She was a member of First Christian Church of Watkinsville and was very active in the Christian Womenís Fellowship and the Flat Rock Club.
Survivors include her children, Linda Dell NeSmith of Sarasota, FL, June ìJunieî Hewell of Watkinsville and John Dean Thomas, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren, Dean Thomas Hewell, Adam Benjamin Hewell, William Edward Marsh, Amy Marsh Boyette, Guy Clinton Hewell, Jason Anthony Hewell, John D. ìTreyî Thomas, III, Charles Thad Thomas and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 11AM at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, WEST with Rev. Brent Reynolds officiating. Pallbearers will be Dwain Toney, Robert Venerable, Larry Gunter, Bob Bargfrede, Leo Baker and Mark Thomas. Honarary pallbearers will be the Martha Harris Sunday School Class. Burial will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 3PM at Hillcrest Cemetery, Conway, SC with Rev. Wayne Revisky officiating. Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
