Mary M Farr

Mary Margaret Farr, 84, of Athens, Georgia, died on January 31, 2026. The daughter of the late Dominic F. Mazza and Margaret P. Mazza (Gaffney), she was born on April 24, 1941 in Syracuse, New York. Mrs. Farr was preceded in death by her husband, James Earnest Farr; a sister, Marcella Manuel; and a niece, Nora Mazza. She is survived by her daughters, Dominica F. Humphries (Donald) and Patricia P. Kennedy (Jimmy), grandsons Cpt. Hugh J. Kennedy (Taylor) and Craig A. Kennedy; sister Judith Mazza, brothers Hugh Mazza (Ann) and Dominic Mazza (Lorraine); stepsons Lamar Farr (Kelly) and Tim Farr; and step granddaughters Emily Rogers, Olivia Tims, Hannah Oliver and Mariah Farr. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Farr graduated from St. John The Baptist High School, Syracuse, and attended Powelson Business School. She lived in Syracuse until 1977, when she moved with her family to Athens. She was devoted to her Roman Catholic faith and was an active parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 49 years, serving as an usher and volunteering for The Giving Tree program for many years. Mrs. Farr’s passions included live music, in particular Andrea Bocelli, and never missed her daughters’ or grandsons’ high school band performances. She also regularly attended her grandson’s swim meets, where she was nicknamed “GMa” by members of the swim team. She also loved reading, sewing and needlework. She sewed clothes for many years for her family, including costumes, prom and wedding dresses, and lots of home décor.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Friday, February 6, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 958 Epps Bridge Pkwy., Athens, Ga. 30606. Burial will take place immediately following at Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org/.
