A life well lived is measured not by the years alone, but by the love shared, the family nurtured, and the memories left behind. Mary Dodd Hardigree Hale, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away at the age of 99 leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born and raised in Watkinsville, Georgia, Mary Dodd spent her entire life in the community she loved. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, John Arthur Hale; her parents, James Oscar, Sr. and Annie Mae Elder Hardigree; and her siblings, Trudie Giles, James Oscar Hardigree Jr., TyCobb Hardigree, and Betty Haithcock.
Surviving her was her greatest joy, her family. She was a loving mother to her three children, Albert (Sandra) Hale, Kris (Jesse) Christopher, and Stephanie (Jody) Wright, all of Watkinsville, Georgia; a proud grandmother to ten, Cherri (Chris) Royster, James (Michelle) Hale, Regina (Jon) Zuck, Daniel Hale, Johnny (Tandy) Christopher, Carlton (Bandy) Hale, Annie (Matt) Moorman, Mari (Joel) Seagraves, Halee (Austin) Griffith and Jessica (Rob) Reynolds; great grandmother to Sarah Beth (Tray) Andrews, Makenzie (Jordan) Ginnel, Madison Hale, Dylan Hale, Rylee Ann Royster, J.W. Hale, Carson Royster, Brody Christopher, Denver Hale, Russell Hale, Colby Christopher, Cody Zuck, Owen Zuck, Eva Moorman, Calvin Griffith, Ryann Reynolds, Jack Griffith, and William Seagraves and great great grandmother to Zamirah and Azias Andrews.
She found fulfillment in caring for the people she loved. Her home was the heart of her family, a place where everyone was welcomed, traditions were cherished, and Sunday lunches brought loved ones together around the table. Through these gatherings, she created treasured memories and strengthened the family bonds that will continue for generations.
She found beauty and peace in tending to her roses, nurturing each bloom with the same patience and care she gave to her family. Her garden reflected the love she poured into all that she did—a quiet reminder that the most beautiful things in life flourish when tended with care and devotion.
Her life was grounded in faith, and she was a lifetime member of Antioch Christian Church. Her faith provided a foundation for the way she lived, loved, and served others throughout her long and fulfilling life.
She was no stranger to hard work. She was a steadfast partner to her husband and a devoted mother. Alongside her husband, she helped build a life for their family through farming the land and operating Hales Dairy. Together, they faced the demands of farm life, working side by side to provide for their family and establish a legacy rooted in perseverance, responsibility, and dedication.
She graduated as the Oconee County High School Valedictorian Class of 1944. Her working life began with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, and she later enjoyed a lengthy career with Sears Roebuck and Co. After years of dedication and service, she retired, returning her time and attention to the work she treasured most—caring for her home and family. For her, home was more than a place to live; it was a labor of love, a gathering place, and a reflection of the care she gave so freely.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a legacy that will live on in the generations she nurtured. Her roses may have faded, and the Sunday lunches quieter, but the love she planted in the hearts of her children and grandchildren continue to bloom. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
The family wants to express gratitude to Amedisys Hospice Care and Connie Tippet along with Mrs. Celeste Brown for the loving care they provided.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Jim Jacobs and Rev. Michael Woelfl officiating. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home West Chapel.
