Mary Sue (Pruitt) Crowley

February 12, 1935 — February 11, 2024

Watkinsville, Georgia

Mary Sue Pruitt Crowley passed away February 11th at 88 years old. Born February 12th, 1935, in Bartow, GA to Johnnie Morgan Forehand and Emel Hale Forehand.

In 1943, Sue moved to Watkinsville, Ga when her mother received a teaching job. She had many wonderful memories growing up in a small town where everyone knew each other. She graduated from Oconee County High School in 1953, the first class to go twelve grades. She attended UGA for two years and worked at Thorton Brothers Paper Company for 34 years before retiring in 1997.

December 30th, 1955, she married Foster Cooper “Bo” Pruitt. In 1965, they moved back to Oconee County where they wanted to raise their two children. Sue and Bo shared 41 years together before his death in 1996.

After retiring, she moved to her lake house on Lake Oconee where she lived for the next twenty years. She became an active member in Madison Presbyterian Church where she was ordained as an Elder. She worked at the Caring Place (Morgan County Food Bank) and served on their board for many years. She enjoyed meeting every month with The Prime Timers, a Senior Ministry for 55+.  She regularly met with the Buckhead Coffee Club to catch up with the news in their community. She was active in American Legion Post 185 Auxiliary, serving as President twice. She additionally served as the 10th District Veterans Affairs and rehabilitation Chairman.

She married Edgar Judson Crowley in 1999 and had ten wonderful years together before his passing in 2009. When she married Edgar, she inherited four stepchildren and ten step grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, both of her husbands and her daughter-in-law Kymy Pruitt.

She is survived by her son, Glenn Pruitt and her daughter Rhonda (Terry) Wilkinson, grandson Kristopher (Ginny) Pruitt, her granddaughter, Morgann Pruitt O’Kelley, and one great granddaughter, Eva Pruitt. She is additionally survived by her stepchildren Ed (Juliet) Crowley, Judi Pestka, Jayne Crowley, and Bill (Theresa) Crowley and her ten stepchildren and many step great grandchildren.

A graveside service will take place on Friday, March 1st at 3pm at Oconee Memorial Park located at 2370 Hog Mountain Rd, Watkinsville, GA 30677 for friends and family to join.
