Athens - Mary Elizabeth Colvin, 89, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in Yardley, Penn.
Born in Shreveport, La., she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Vivian Anthony Benge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her six-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Anne Colvin, and her beloved husband of 65 years, Thomas S. Colvin.
Mrs. Colvin was a devoted homemaker, an avid reader, an accomplished gardener, and an excellent gourmet chef, specializing in Louisiana cuisine. She was a member of the Ladies Garden Club of Athens and the University of Georgia Women's Club, and was one of the founders of the first genealogy interest groups in the Athens area in 1975. She served as a volunteer for the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her children, David T. Colvin of Atlanta, Mary Helen (Ferrell) Miller of Yardley, Penn., and Tricia (Jim) Pierce of Dahlonega; and grandchildren: Clarke Colvin, Brad Miller, Evan Miller, Annie McCarthy, Michael Pierce, and Melissa Pierce. She also leaves behind many loved relatives and friends, including Karen Colvin.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February, 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Athens, with Reverend Edwin Beckham officiating. Burial will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Pierce, Evan Miller, Brad Miller, Ferrell Miller, Clarke Colvin, and David Colvin.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2011 at the funeral home.
