Marjorie “Margie” Buchanan Floyd, age 73, of Nicholson, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. Born on July 28, 1952 to William “Bill” and Mamie Pearl Buchanan in Bon Aqua, Tennessee, Margie was the seventh of eight children. Margie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, affectionately known as “Nanny,” whose legacy of love and quiet sacrifice will forever be carried in her family’s hearts.
Margie was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and the warmth she shared with everyone she met. She treasured time with her loved ones and found joy in life’s simple blessings, especially cheering on her granddaughters in all of their endeavors. She proudly served as the Graduate Program Coordinator Assistant of Anthropology at the University of Georgia, where she made a lasting impact through her kindness and dedication, becoming a beloved presence among students and faculty alike. Her legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and unwavering love.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Corrine Cox; her brothers, Marshall Buchanan, Chester Buchanan, and Jessie Paul Buchanan.
She is survived by her loving husband, Luther Floyd; her sons, Roger Strickland Jr., Robert (“Robbie”) Strickland, and Rocky Strickland; her cherished granddaughters, Emma Strickland and Adalynn Hardeman; her sister-in-law, Pamela Floyd Mann (Morris); her daughter, Trina Duvall Strickland; her sister, Lucy Redden; her brothers, Malcolm Buchanan (Faye) and Michael Buchanan (Pam); her soulsisters, Ruthie Buchanan and Janice Buchanan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Margie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love lives on in the hearts of her family, and in the many lives—both human and animal—she touched.
Visitation will be held at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Danielsville, Georgia on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
