Margaret Elizabeth Williamson, a long-term resident of Martin, Georgia and a recent resident of Avery Village Assisted Living in Winterville, Georgia died on September 4, 2025. She was originally from Hartwell, Georgia.
She retired from Sears Roebuck after working 45 years in their customer service department. There she met her sweetheart, Tom Williamson, and would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this past April 23rd. Her greatest legacy is being Mama to Sandy and Scott, being Nanny to 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Margaret enjoyed card parties with her many friends. Once retired, she also enjoyed cruises to many places, including the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, London, Paris, Moscow, Hawaii, Alaska, and other locations. She enjoyed going to Georgia Bulldog football games and tailgating with Sears friends ahead of time.
Mama didn't win any awards or amass great contributions to society. She did, however, teach us many valuable lessons through her actions. First, she taught us about persistence. After she graduated high school, she moved to Atlanta at age 17 in search of a job. She applied to Sears and was turned down due to her age. She continued to apply every day until the interviewer gave in and awarded her a job.
Mama taught us to always do your best. Every day at Sears she would handle more calls than anyone else. She took pride in outdoing her previous high totals.
She taught us the value of hard work. She would cook breakfast and dinner, work a 40-hour week job, drive us to after school activities, clean the house, wash and iron our clothes, and help us with homework. Looking back, we don't know how she did all of that each week.
Mama always demonstrated compassion especially when someone was ill. She would call many times to see about individuals' needs. She wouldn't make just one meal, but many meals over time to help friends and family.
Mama had the gift of hospitality. Throughout her early years and later years, she always invited friends for dinner. She never worried about cooking the right cuisine. She also never worried if her home was nice enough to impress someone. She just wanted friends to feel comfortable, be well-fed, and enjoy the evening.
Mama, also, stressed the importance of not only faith in Jesus Christ, but also the importance of regular church attendance. When we were growing up, we never missed a church service. She continued this practice throughout her lifetime.
Again, Mama never won any awards, but she deserved All-time Best Mother Award in our opinion.
