Louis John Richt, age 88, passed away on July 9, 2025. Louis was born June 15, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska to William and Marie Richt. Louis worked as a tool and die maker and then as a computer programmer for IBM, first in Boulder, Colorado and then Boca Raton, Florida where he retired in 1992 after 25 years with IBM.
Louis loved all sports, especially softball where he served 11 years as head coach of the girls’ varsity softball team at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton. He also served as coach, league official, and league organizer of several sporting leagues for well over 20 years and helped organize various golf tournament fund raisers over the years.
Louis was a member of the Catholic Center at UGA in Athens, Georgia where he served in various roles including Religious Education teacher, Men’s Bible Study leader, and Golf Tournament Committee Chair and later member. If the church needed help, he was there. It is there where he met his wife, Annette.
Louis was the father of Louis Jr., Mark, Craig, Mikki and Nikki. He was the brother of Bill, Bob, Tony, and John. He was the grandfather of 11, the great grandfather of 4, and will be sadly missed by Annette’s children, David and Valerie, and other loved ones Tracy, Trish, Kris, Caren, and all of the Omaha Richts and their families.
Louis will be remembered for his IBM humor (dad jokes), his sharp mind and hard work, his community service, as a man who never complained, and a quiet man with a great presence, and when asked how he was doing always replied “it’s the best day of my life.”
There will be a visitation at Lord & Stephens in Watkinsville from 6:00 pm until 8:00 PM on Thursday July 24th. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic Center at UGA on Saturday July 26th beginning with a visitation at 10 am and Mass at 11 am followed by a reception.
