Leonard Dean Myers, Sr.

Our beloved Leonard Dean Myers, Sr., 84, of Watkinsville, Georgia passed away on September 20, 2026.

He was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia in January 1942 to Dewey Grant and Cassie Florine Christy Myers and was the youngest of three brothers. Leonard graduated from Athens High School in 1960 before attending the University of Georgia. He served in ROTC and the Navy Reserves as a young man. Leonard obtained his BBA in Accounting at UGA in 1966, becoming the first in his family to obtain a college degree. Leonard earned his Masters of Business Administration from UGA in 1973.

Leonard met his wife, Robbie, when he worked at the Colonial Store in Athens, Georgia while they were in high school. They married after high school in 1961 and had been married for 65 years. Leonard worked for the University of Georgia for more than 34 years. He started in UGA’s Accounting Department, moved to UGA’s Internal Audit Department, and finished his career at the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

During his tenure at the UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government, Leonard received a Commendation from Georgia Governor Roy Barnes for overseeing the restoration of the six buildings of the Lucy Cobb Complex. The Lucy Cobb Institute had been slated for demolition prior to Leonard’s restoration campaign.

Leonard retired from UGA in 2001. After his retirement, Leonard was hired by Oconee County as the Acting Financial Director. He also worked for Jackson County as the Interim County Manager on three separate occasions. Leonard was later hired by Jasper County as its Interim County Manager.

Leonard was an avid Georgia Bulldogs football fan and attended games for many decades. After retirement, he and Robbie also enjoyed gardening.

Leonard was predeceased by his father, Dewey Grant Myers, his mother, Cassie Florine Christy Myers, his brother, James William (J.W.) Myers, and his brother, Edgar Grant Myers.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Robbie Nell Parrish Myers, daughter Susan Rebekah (Beki) Myers (John Davis), son Leonard D. Myers, Jr. (Cathy) and son Parrish C. Myers. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Clay MacEwan Passante, Charlotte Cassie Myers, Chloe Elizabeth Myers, Joshua Coleman (Cole) Myers, and Catelen Nell Myers.

Visitation will be held at Lord & Stephens Oconee Chapel on Hog Mountain Road in Watkinsville, Georgia on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. The funeral service will be held immediately following at Lord & Stephens Oconee Chapel at 2:00pm. Graveside service will be private for all family members.
