Katie Stephens

Katie Gruetter Stephens, 44, of Watkinsville, passed away on May 23, 2026.

Born on November 9, 1981, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Katie was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and the unconditional love she shared so freely with her family and friends.

In her free time, Katie found joy in cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, a bold choice for an Athens resident, as well as spending time at the beach, lake, and kayaking down the river. She loved dancing to her favorite music and, most importantly, being with the people she loved most. She was also a talented hair stylist and a wonderful cook. Her laughter, warmth, and vibrant energy left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her husband, Chad Stephens and daughter, Kenleigh Stephens of Watkinsville, GA; son, Ty (Mechelle) Sims of Watkinsville, GA; son Alex (Stephens) of Hull,GA; parents, Cathy and Dan Gruetter of Watkinsville, GA; brother, Matt (Caroline) Gruetter of Athens, GA; uncle, Ed Barnett of Greenville, SC; in addition to many extended family members and special friends who affectionately referred to her as “Aunt KK”.

Memorial services for Mrs. Stephens will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, 4:00 p.m. at Lord and Stephens West Chapel, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until service time.
