Kathryn Adelia Cofer Spratlin, 95, of Athens, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Washington, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clay Cofer and Lou Ellen Brown Cofer and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, John Charles Spratlin.
Mrs. Spratlin graduated from Georgia College for Women with a degree in business. She worked for Georgia Power, where she met her future husband, and later served in the Registrar's Office at the University of Georgia. She was a longtime member of Young Harris United Methodist Church and later Athens First United Methodist Church. She was also a resident of the Wesley Woods Community.
Guided by her faith and love for her family, Kathryn lived a life marked by compassion, generosity, and devotion to those closest to her. Family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in her daughter and grandchildren. She treasured the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life and found great joy in staying connected with family and friends. Known for her gracious manner, gentle spirit, and quiet strength, she took a genuine interest in others and made those around her feel valued and cared for. In her later years, she especially enjoyed the friendship and sense of community she found at Wesley Woods. Throughout her 95 years, she remained true to the values of faith, family, friendship, and quiet service that shaped her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay Spratlin Elder and her husband, Charles F. Elder IV ; her grandchildren, Charles F. Elder V , Mary Katherine Elder, and John Collin Elder; and other loving family members and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Athens First United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service, where the family will greet friends and guests.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Athens First United Methodist Church Weekday Preschool or the Masonic Children’s Home in honor of Mrs. Spratlin’s memory.
She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her deep faith, her gentle spirit, and the kindness she extended to all whose lives she touched.
