Joyce Anne Jenkins

Joyce Anne Jenkins, 65, wife of Donald Howard Jenkins, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

Born in Fort Devens, Mass., she was the daughter of the late H D Wilson and Doris Marie Smith Wilson. Joyce attended UGA before attending the Medical College of Georgia where she received her BSN. She worked as a Registered Nurse from 1979 to 2022 until her health would no longer allow her to. As a nurse she wore many hats having worked in medical surgery, labor and delivery, office triage, and the operating room.  She worked at hospitals in Athens, Augusta, Killeen Texas, and the Atlanta area. Before moving back to Athens, she worked for 19 years in the OR at Piedmont Atlanta where she was vital in helping establish their Liver Transplant Program.  In her later years she was called to work as a hospice nurse. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, coworker, and friend. She was an accomplished cook. She enjoyed gardening and was a lover of cats.

She and her husband Don would have celebrated 44 years of marriage on December 16. Together they have two children. She is survived by her husband Don, her daughters Katherine Elizabeth Jenkins and Kimberly Jenkins (Adam) Kelley, one sister, Sharlene (Charlie) Cook, a brother, Scott (Linda) Wilson and two grandsons: Reeve Kelley and Walter Kelley.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2022, at 1PM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Officiating will be Father Daniel Adkinson of St. Thomas Anglican Church where Joyce was a member since the church began 4 years ago.
