Joseph “Joe” Galen Arp, 76, of Watkinsville, Georgia, passed away on October 2, 2026. Born on October 16, 1949, in Epworth, Georgia, Joe was the youngest of three boys and spent his childhood in the mountains he cherished throughout his life.

Joe attended the University of Georgia and the UGA School of Pharmacy before beginning his career alongside his uncles at Huff’s Drugs in Ellijay and Blue Ridge. In 1982, he joined the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency, where he served as an agent for more than 30 years with dedication, integrity, and quiet professionalism.

For 43 years, Joe was a faithful member of Ashford Memorial Methodist Church, where he served in numerous roles and joyfully coached the Ashford Angels softball team for many seasons. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he loved playing adult‑league softball and cheering on all UGA athletics, the Atlanta Braves, and Friday night lights across the community.

After suffering a massive stroke in 2014, Joe faced his recovery with courage, determination, and an unwavering reliance on his family and his faith. His motivation to regain strength was rooted in the arrival of grandchildren and the steadfast support of loved ones. His family is deeply grateful for the countless healthcare workers and aides who cared for him with compassion over the years. Magnolia Estates, now The Grove Senior Living, was his home for the past five years. Their kindness will always be remembered. The family also extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Patrick Lucas for his exceptional care and commitment throughout Joe’s health journey.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Lee and Earl Arp. He is survived by his brothers Earl (Mary) and Ben (Joyce); his devoted wife of 43 years, Ava; his daughter Anna (Jake); his grandchildren Ward and Avary Cate; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved Ashford church family.

The family will welcome friends at Ashford’s Beacon Hall, located at 2 Water Street in Watkinsville, on Friday, October 9. A drop‑in visitation will be held from 4:00–6:00 for those who wish to visit and share memories of Joe. Later in October, the immediate family will gather in the Blue Ridge mountains to celebrate Joe’s life in a place he held dear.
