John Lawrence Yash Jr., 77, of Comer, GA passed away on September 18, 2024. Born in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late John Lawrence Yash Sr. and Louise Mae Matuscak. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Kyle Yash.
John relocated to the Comer area four years ago with his loving wife, Mary Ellen Yash, after residing in Lilburn, GA for 37 years. Along with his wife, he is survived by three children: Amber (Luis Rojas), Bethany (David Reynolds) and Jenna (Dave Ramsey); three grandchildren: Avery, Molly and Johnny; siblings: Charles J. Yash (Kathy) of Savannah, GA and Mary Lou Prosin (Dan) of California; brother-in-law: John Turk (FL); sisters-in-law: JoAnn Faix (AZ) and Charlotte Demers (Michael); and numerous nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1969 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 47 years as the South Regional Manager based in Atlanta, GA. He received the 2024 Guy Funkhouser Award for his long-time service to the company and its customers. The award is given to someone who personified the values of competency, honesty, integrity, and respect in his professional service with the company and his personal life. He loved meeting and talking to people and made it a point to get to know his employees and their families. John remains respected by co-workers and customers and was known as a mentor and an invaluable source of knowledge. In his free time, he loved doing yard work, cheering on the UGA football team, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. John was always known as the go-to guy and would help anyone in need.
A Memorial Mass will be held at he UGA Catholic Center on Friday, September 27, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in John’s name to the ALS United of Georgia (https://alsgeorgia.org) or the Foodbank of Northeast Georgia (https://foodbanknega.org)
