John William Pritchett, Jr., affectionately known as Johnny, passed away on May 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated public service spanning five decades. Born on September 6, 1949, Johnny committed his life to the safety and well-being of his community through his distinguished career and civic leadership.
Johnny began his firefighting career in 1971 with the Athens Clarke County Fire Department, where he faithfully served until 2005, culminating his tenure as the Fire Marshal. His expertise and dedication did not conclude with retirement; he continued to provide valuable service as the Fire Code Specialist for Walton County for an additional fourteen years. Beyond his career in fire safety, Johnny was deeply involved in local governance, serving as a member of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners and as Mayor of Bishop.
A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Winder, Johnny's faith was a cornerstone of his life.
Visitation will be held on May 28, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lord & Stephens Funeral Homes Watkinsville (1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677). A funeral service will follow on May 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the same location. Burial will be held at Farmington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.
