Watkinsville - John Milward Griner, Jr. of Watkinsville, died Monday, June 20, 2005 at Athens Regional Medical Centers.
Mr. Griner was born February 21, 1927 in Camilla, GA, the son of the late John M. and Marie Gafford Griner. He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard Donald Griner. He graduated from Camilla High School and the University of Georgia with a BS in Animal Husbandry and a MS in Animal Nutrition. John served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and later in the US Army. He retired as a salesman with Rhone-Poulene. He was currently serving as councilman with the City of Watkinsville. He was a member of Oconee River Methodist Church in Bishop, GA. He was a co-founder and past president of the Northeast Georgia Rose Society and was a member and past president of Green Hills Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Edna G. Griner, two sons and daughter-in-law, John Frederick (Saretta) Griner of Atlanta, James A. (Andy) Griner of Watkinsville; three granddaughters, Lucy, Allison and Elizabeth Griner; two sisters, Evelyn G. Shingler of Ashburn, Genova G. Harmon of Marietta; one brother, Harold E. Griner of Stone Mountain and sister-in-law, Polly T. Griner, Athens.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Lord & Stephens, WEST at 11 AM with Revs. Richard Hoard and Herbert Owen officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be nephews. Burial will be held at Oconee Memorial Park.
