Joan Beverly (Nelson) Gould

Winterville, GA

Joan Beverly Gould, 90, of Athens, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2023. She was born October 17, 1932, in New Berlin, New York, the daughter of Howard and Doretta Nelson.

Joan is survived by her husband of 68 years, Norman; daughters Amy Chancey (David), Sara Blose (James), and Beth Day (Mike), and son Matthew Gould (Karen), 14 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

Joan spent her career in education, formerly working in the Athens-Clarke County school system for 30 years. She received her BS in education from Courtland State Teachers College. She received her masters in special education from the University of Georgia.

She was very involved in her church, the Gideons International Auxiliary, and International Friends. She taught a Sunday School class for years. She traveled extensively, including touring China, Ecuador, Jamaica, and Canada. She enjoyed camping and biking with family, completing bike trips in Canada, Georgia, and Florida.

The memorial service will be Saturday, September 23, at Green Acres Baptist Church, 2085 Barnett Shoals Road, at 11 a.m. The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Green Acres Baptist Church, the Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia, or the Gideons International.
