Jerry Allan Morgan, 85, of Athens, passed away on September 29, 2023. He was born on February 5, 1938 in Monticello, IL. to the late Birch and Jessie Morgan. Growing up in an idealic small town he was able to participate in numerous sports and enjoyed spending time on the family farm with his sister Emily.

Jerry attended DePauw University where he met his wife, Chris. They married in 1959.  He worked for several years before going to Harvard Business School for his MBA.  Jerry had various jobs throughout the years completing the last 15 years of his career at Sargent & Greenleaf Company, an international lock and security firm, where he retired as President and CEO.  His career gave him and Chris the opportunity to live in many cities throughout the country including Chicago, IL, Des Moines, IA, Minneapolis, MN, Denver, CO, and Lexington, Ky, before retiring to Reynolds Lake Oconee in Georgia. Jerry built many lifelong friendships along the way.

Traveling was a huge part of his life, not just for work but for leisure as well.  He has traveled to numerous countries and continents including Africa, India, Egypt, Jordan, Australia where he saw the Great Barrier Reef, China, South America, the Czech Republic, Brazil, and many other places throughout Europe.  He greatly enjoyed learning about different cultures and meeting people from all over.

Jerry and Chris had a strong, happy marriage setting a great example of what true love looks like to their children and grandchildren.  Chris was by Jerry’s side throughout many of his travels including the many happy summers they spent at the lake with family in Minnesota.  He was joyful and kind and a very charismatic individual, making and building lasting friendships with others effortless for him.  He was a family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Jerry was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was always active in his church in various capacities.  He was a great sports fan and avid reader with interest in history and politics and loved the camaraderie of the golf course.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Christine Johnson Morgan; children, Jennifer (Joe) Roach of Edina, MN, Leslie (Mike) Sivewright of Atlanta, GA, Katherine (Rob) Kurtz of Boulder, CO; grandchildren, Ben(Sami) Roach, Lauren Roach, Will Roach, John (Dacey) Sivewright, Charlie (Megan) Sivewright, Bridget Sivewright; great grandchildren, Harris Roach, Maddie Roach, Morgan Sivewright, Ryleigh Sivewright, Kenzie Sivewright, Brooks Sivewright; and his sister, Emily Morgan of Munster, IN.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Presbyterian Village of Athens Chapel.  A reception will immediately follow the service in the Atrium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Parkinson Disease Association online at https://www.apdaparkinson.org/1907d3l/ or by mail to PO Box 61420 Staten Island, NY 10306.
