Listen to Obituary

Jeanie Mae Clark Raney passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on February 27, 2026. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Jeanie was born on October 4, 1935 in Hoschton, GA to Emma and Willie Clark. The youngest of eight children, she loved reading and learning about far away places and yearned to explore the world. Her dream was realized when she married a U. S. Navy sailor, Billy Don Raney, the love of her life. Whether stationed in Guam, Scotland or numerous U.S. ports, Jeanie made sure to embrace the local culture and enjoy it. The couple had two daughters, Regina and Donna, whom they adored. She and the girls traveled extensively in the U.K, and she made life long friends at every duty station. Fifty years after returning to America from Scotland aboard the cruise ship SS United States, Jeanie returned to Scotland accompanied by her daughters. The trip brought back many wonderful memories and countless additional memories were made.

After retirement from the Navy, the Raneys made Athens, Georgia their home. Jeanie built a career with the Georgia Department of Pardons and Parole where she served for over 30 years, cultivating deep friendships with both her colleagues and the clientele.

A longtime member of Oconee Baptist and Trinity Lutheran churches, she demonstrated her faith to the Lord by serving on various committees, participating in small groups, and volunteering yearly for Vacation Bible School. At both churches, Jeanie formed many wonderful, lasting friendships.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Don Raney, her parents Emma and Willie and all her siblings, Lucille, Marshall, Jewel, Odis, Willie Clark, Jr., Mondine Hardy, and Louise Boyd. Cherishing the memory of her love (and cooking-Pecan Pie, especially), survivors include her daughters, Regina Guthner (Parke) of Statham, Donna Raney of Bogart, granddaughters Erin Colvin McMahon (John) of Cleveland, OH, Emily Guthner Burkhardt (Ronald) of Virginia Beach, VA, Colleen Colvin Faulkner (Ian) of Wilmington, NC and grandson (who became the man in her life) Andrew Guthner (Kristy) of Charlottesville, VA, and longtime family friend, Cliff Kachur. During the last year of her life she was blessed with two beautiful great grandchildren, Pippa Faulkner and Clark Guthner.

The family will be hosting friends at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, March 3. The funeral will be at the same facility at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 4, followed by internment at the Hoschton Cemetery.
