Susan Minish Steed, age 68, of Ila, GA. passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025 after a year long battle with cancer. She was born in Commerce, GA. on July 9, 1957 to the late Cecile Simmons Minish and Ferris Minish. She was the youngest of ten children. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her infant brother, Billy Minish; sisters Mary Gillespie Chandler, Jean Hardman Harris, Nita Wilkins Bellamy; brother, Lammie “Doke” Minish; and daughter Chrissy Steed Caywood.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost forty-eight years, Keith Steed; sisters Nelda Whitsel of Ila, Madge Stewart of Commerce, Glenda Hogan of Hoschton; brother Johnny Minish (Brenda) of Ila; son Matthew Steed (Debra); grandsons Hal Steed and Ben Steed; son-in-law Eric Caywood; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was known as “Granny” to her grandson, they were her greatest pride and joy.
Susan was a lifelong member of Erastus Christian Church. Many will remember Susan and her sister Mary, and Ms. Liz Brewer making “Youth Group” meals and keeping babies in the nursery. Susan graduated from Madison County High in 1975.
June 8th, Susan was honored with a retirement reception for serving thirty five years as the city clerk of Ila. She loved her little town and the people in it. Although it was a “part-time” job, she was always ready to step in and help. She enjoyed working in the yard, flowers, and decorating the house for every season and holiday.
The family of Susan Steed would like to offer their sincerest gratitude to all the caring and compassionate people at the University Cancer and Blood Clinic, especially Dr. Fredrick Flynt and his staff. The family would also like to thank the caregivers of Bridgeway Hospice. Even thought the encounter was brief, they took great care of Susan in her final days.A visitation will be held at Erastus Christian Church Saturday, August 30, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM with a graveside to follow at 3:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastor Vaughn Howington Jr., and Pastor Billy Glosson.
