Janie Chalker Neal was born on October 20, 1939, in Gibson, Georgia. She lived a life full of love and care as a homemaker. Janie was a loving mother and grandmother who brought joy to her family and friends. She lived in Athens since 1959, nearly seven decades and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving in the church nursery church.
Janie passed away on June 8, 2026, leaving behind many family members who loved her dearly. She is survived by her son, Gregory Neal and his wife Karen, and her daughter, Selena Culwell and her husband Curtis. Janie was a proud grandmother to Brad Culwell and his wife Andrea, Megan Culwell, Jake Neal, Josh Neal and his wife Aubrey, Caroline Partridge and her husband Charlie, Wes Culwell, and Jonah Neal. She also had a great grandson named Graham Partridge. Her siblings Kaye Bazal and her husband Don, Cindy Goldman and her husband Bobby, and Janet Deas and her husband Michael are also living, along with her sister in law Jennie Neal. Janie leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who will remember her fondly.
Janie is preceded in death by her husband Dwight Neal, her father Calvin Emory Chalker, her mother Tommie Miller Chalker, and her stepmother Jane McCorkle Chalker.
Visitation for Janie will be held on June 18, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Funeral Homes Watkinsville located at 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. The funeral service will take place the following day, June 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Janie Chalker Neal will be remembered for her warm heart, her devotion to her family, her faith, and the happy times she shared playing Bunco with her church friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Nursery Ministry of Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
