Janelle Kitchens Higdon

Janelle Kitchens Higdon, 78, of Comer, passed away on January 28, 2026. Born on February 25, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Harris Kitchens and Marynell Walden Kitchens Black.

Janelle was a long-time member of Elder Baptist Church in Bishop, Ga and adored Pastor Carlton Shelton and her church family dearly. Her love for salvation was beyond any other and she made sure she was in church as much as she was able. She was an amazing cook and showcased this ability for 20 years as a cook at Watkinsville First Baptist Preschool. She had a heart of gold and adored her family. She was a very strong lady who could overcome anything and everything. 

Janelle loved God, her family and Church with her whole heart. She was Mama to many even beyond her own children. She did not meet a stranger and always made sure everyone was always taken care of in every way. She not only adored others, but she was very adored herself beyond family and friends.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Grady Higdon; brother, Chester Kitchens.

Survivors include her children, Lisa (David) Smith, Kim (Billy) Tittle, Rhonda (Melvin) Tittle, Tina (Ken) Brown, Daniel (Nicole) Higdon; grandchildren, Justin Smith, Chris Smith, Courtney Roberts, Dustin Tittle, Brad Tittle, Travis Tittle, Troy Tittle, Chad Tittle, Taylor Brown, Brandon Pruitt, Amber Braden, Beau Higdon, Zoe Higdon, Bubba Higdon, Brinley Higdon, Boone Higdon, Cainen Higdon; 19 great grandchildren; siblings, Frankie Black, Wendall Kitchens, Linda Fulcher, Sarah Wood, Millie Hulme, Ralph Kitchens, James Kitchens, & Judy Lampp.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Oconee Chapel at 2370 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville with Rev. Carlton Shelton of Elder Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow at Oconee Memorial Park.
