Jane Walker Knight

February 12, 1941 — June 25, 2025

Mary Jane Walker Knight, 84, wife of the late Robert Wade Knight, died on June 25, 2025 at her residence in Athens, GA. Born in Quitman, GA, she was the daughter of the late Horace Greely Walker and Leonora Hunter Walker and sister to the late Carlton “Sonny” Hunter Walker. Jane was a graduate of Quitman HS and Valdosta State University.

Jane was devoted to her late husband, family and friends. She was of the Episcopal faith and strongly believed in the power of prayer (keeping many on her prayer list), helping those in need, and charitable giving.

Jane was an avid sports fan who dedicated time to all manner of youth sports from cheering in the stands, to fund raising, to being a Team Mom or Touchdown Club President. She also enjoyed following the NFL and the Atlanta Braves.

Having grown up around horses, Jane occasionally reminisced that ‘Riding a horse alone in the woods gave me a peace that nothing else did, or does’. As a lifelong animal lover, she was passionate about her cats (never meeting a stray she wouldn’t take in and love) and at least one dog, Sassy.

Jane had a wonderful, independent streak in her and encouraged family members to do the things that made them happy without judgement. She was fond of saying ‘Let the good times roll’ (Laissez les bon temps rouler) and ‘No Fool, No Fun’ as reminders not to live life so seriously.

Jane was a loving and generous person who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her sons: Michael (Sherry) Knight, Charlie (Helen) Knight; grandchildren: Kasey (Alisa Baker) Knight, Cameron Knight, Marcus (Sydney) Knight, Joshua Knight, Emmy Knight, Kylie Knight, and Henry Baker; and great-grandchildren: Walker and Wells Knight; and many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held with interment alongside her husband Wade at Athens Memory Gardens. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Athens, GA is in charge of the arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
