Jameson Chandler McRae

September 17, 1993 — December 21, 2023

Athens, GA

Jameson Chandler McRae passed away on December 21, 2023. Known by everyone as Chan, he was an old soul and a bluesman at heart. Chan was born on September 17, 1993, in Athens, Georgia. He attended school in Athens, graduating from Cedar Shoals High School in 2012. Following graduation, he moved to Milledgeville, Georgia, to attend Georgia College with a focus on music education.
He withdrew from school in his first year and began working in various odd jobs in the Milledgeville area to support himself. He ultimately took a position as a meat cutter in a local grocery. Cutting meat was a skill he had acquired by helping his grandparents process meat from family in Montana. He also had an affinity for the grocery business following in the footsteps of his great grandfather. He was very good at this and worked in various specialty shops and grocery stores including most recently at Bell's on Hawthorne.
He was a truly talented musician and could play almost any instrument he picked up. He was best when playing the guitar or the piano. His other interests included working on old trucks and cars. He would give away a new car to be able to drive an old rust bucket that he had to work on constantly. Chan was also a skilled wood turner, something he and his grandfather spent hours doing together.
Like with vehicles he had an affinity for old things, most likely driven by his many trips "junkin" with his mother growing up. With instruments, antiquities, vehicles and people, Chan always found the good in them. Chan loved all animals as was evidenced by his dog Otis that he left behind. He never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone.
He is survived by his parents David and Leigh McRae, grandmothers Jackie McRae and Anne Rose, Uncles Eric McRae and Ridge Rose and Aunt Aimee McRae-Clark, and cousins Ian and Seth Clark. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Walter Bruce McRae and Ronald Rose and his Great Grandmother Susie Berrong.
Chan was loved by many and will be missed by all.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life party at a date yet to be determined.
