James Parley Peterson

James Parley Peterson, 75, of Athens, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 following a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born in Bradenton, Florida, he was the son of William Coy Peterson and Ethel Calton Peterson. Mr. Peterson worked with the school system and taught special education for a number of years. He was also a talented musician and minister with a passion for serving others. Mr. Peterson loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phillis Taylor Peterson and his brother, "Peanut" Peterson.
Survivors include his children, William (Victoria Cason) Peterson and Sarah Peterson; five grandchildren, Ezra, Kamden, Landon, Charlee and James and one sister, Kathy Peterson.
No services are planned at this time.
