James Edward Helm, age 89, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, after a long illness. Born on September 23, 1936, in Wideman, Arkansas, he was the eldest son of Ewell Baxter Helm and Ethel (Dalrymple) Helm. He is survived by his sisters, Betty (Bryan) Palmer and Brenda Helm. James is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Helm; his daughter, Rayna (Charles) Standard; his sons, Mark (Jade) Helm and Ron (Maria) Helm; and his beloved grandchildren, Amanda Standard, Alyssa (Jonathan) Book, Eric Helm, and James Helm. He was also blessed with two cherished great-granddaughters, Macy and Piper Book.

James earned a Master’s Degree in Agronomy from the University of Arkansas and began a distinguished career with the United States Department of Agriculture. He faithfully served the state of Georgia as State Resource Conservationist, dedicating his life to supporting farmers and promoting soil and water conservation throughout the region. His work reflected both his deep knowledge and his sincere commitment to the land and the people who depended on it.

Outside of his professional life, James found joy in many simple pleasures. He loved listening to classical music, reading, working in his shop building projects, and spending time working on his model trains. Above all else, he treasured his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose quiet strength, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed.

Following a private family memorial service, James will be laid to rest in the family cemetery alongside his relatives at the Wideman Cemetery in Wideman, Arkansas.
