James Robert “Bobby” Hayes, 89, of Arnoldsville, Georgia passed away November 9, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Born on June 22, 1936 in Winterville, Georgia, Bobby lived a long and full life marked by dedication to his family and service to his country. He proudly served and retired from the U.S. Air Force, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Bobby was a loving husband to his wife Mildred and a devoted father to sons, Chris (Stacey) and James (Kimberly). He was also a cherished stepfather to Angie Bray, Sue (Joey) Walker, Mike (Susan) Meadow, Kenneth Hollars, Scott Hollars and Bruce Hollars. His “Pop” legacy continues through many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucille Hayes, brothers Morris and Gene Hayes as well as his beloved daughters Kim Hayes and Barbara Dicola. He also shared part of his life with former spouses, Pat Hayes and Doris Hayes (1986-2000)

Throughout his life, Bobby had a successful career as a carpenter. In recent years he enjoyed fishing, road trips, being on the lake or in the mountains and watching NASCAR. Even as he faced health challenges in his last days, he continued to enjoy a good conversation and a cigar with friends and family on his front porch—a place where stories were shared, laughter echoed and memories were made.

A loving husband, father and Pop, Bobby will be remembered for the warmth he brought, his strong opinions he was never too shy to share and the genuine love he brought into the lives of those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Per Bobby’s request there will be no services and he will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Athens, Georgia. Bobby supported many charities in his lifetime and in lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Lakota Indian School.
