ATHENS – James S. Fountain, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2026.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Judith Fountain; his sons, Robert Fountain (wife Michelle), Lawrence Fountain (wife Alisa); and his cherished granddaughters, Lauren and Nicole Fountain. He was preceded in death by his parents Curtis Fountain and Marguerite Fountain, sister Constance and son, David Fountain.
Born and raised in Au Sable Forks, New York, nestled in the Adirondack Mountains, Jim graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1959 with a degree in chemical engineering.
After working for Revere Copper and Brass and proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army, Jim began a long and successful career with Bendix Corporation. He later earned a master’s degree in management engineering from RPI.
Jim retired in 1992 as Vice President of Operations for Honeywell Corporation, which had acquired Bendix. He continued sharing his knowledge and experience as a manufacturing consultant and sales representative until 2002.
While Jim took great pride in his professional accomplishments, his greatest legacy was the family he and Judy built together. He will be remembered for his dedication, strength, and the love he shared with those closest to him. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
A funeral service will be held on November 14, 2026, at 10:30am at St. Josephs Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the new building of Saint Joseph’s church.
