James Patrick Connelly

The family of James Patrick Connelly, 76, of Athens, GA, is saddened to announce his passing on 6/22/2023.  Jim was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Thomas and Miriam (White) Connelly.  They moved shortly after Jim was born and lived in Lakewood, California.  Jim is survived by his wife Jane, step-children Kristen and spouse Drew Posey, Aaron Boyd and fiance Laura Breckenridge, grandchildren Katherine and Ashley Posey.

Jim loved to share stories, and he was loved by many people for his unflinching kindness and generosity.  If you knew Jim, you had a great friend who would laugh, support, and care for you unconditionally.

Jim was an Army veteran who graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Electronic Engineering and spent much of his life working in the computer electronics field.  He initially worked for Raytheon and also started several companies.  After retirement, Jim and his wife spent several years traveling across the US in their little camper with their dog, Molly.   Upon traveling to Ireland, Jim was enthusiastically welcomed because he proudly bore the name of an Irish folk hero.  As a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Athens, Jim actively participated in community outreach and mission projects.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Athens, GA with a reception following.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim’s memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
