James Elmer Brownlee of Watkinsville, Ga went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 5, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wesley Brownlee Sr. and Marie Wise Brownlee; his brothers, Bobby G. Brownlee, Jerry Brownlee, and George Brownlee Jr.; and his sisters, Margaret Jordan and Faye Sager.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen Brownlee of 48 years. He also leaves behind his children, Darrell Brownlee, Jeannie Simmons, Mark (Lisa) Pickelsimer, and Ricky (Teresa) Farmer.
He was a proud grandfather to Jessica (Craig) Kennedy, Josh (Logan) Farmer, Gabe Brownlee, and Eli Simmons. His legacy continues through his beloved great-grandchildren, Anna Faith Pitts, Molly Jewell Farmer, Chloe Alford, Abraham Farmer, and Brett Farmer.
James is also survived by his sisters, Joan Alder and Sandra (Joe) Baird, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.
James was a long time member of Whitehall Baptist Church. James will be remembered for his love for his family, his kind heart, and the steady faith that guided his life. While he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00pm at the funeral home.
