Howard Franklin Peek, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 9, 1936, to Robert and Irene Peek, Howard was a man of great character and humor.
After graduating from Hapeville High School in 1958, Howard served his country in the U.S. Navy. He went on to have a fulfilling career as a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, a job that suited his inquisitive and sharp mind. Howard had a gregarious personality and a quick, witty sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. He found joy in the simple things: cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, tending to his garden, and caring for his many cherished pets.
He is reunited in death with his wife, Nadine Peek, who he shared 46 wonderful years with, and his brother, John R. Peek.
Howard’s memory will be cherished by his loving family, including his son, David Peek (Melissa); his daughter, Nancy Barnett; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider a donation to the Athens-Clarke County Humane Society at https://athenshumanesociety.org/donate/ or the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org/?campaign=default&lang=en.
