Howard M. Hayes, 84, died June 26, 2005. Born in Butts County, he was the son of the late George Howard and Annie Pearl Hayes and was preceded in death by 2 sisters and his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Carter Hayes. Mr. Hayes served his country during WWII in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the 149th Infantry Regiment of the 38th (Cyclone) Division, seeing action in New Guinea and on the Philippine Islands of Leyte and Luzon. He was retired from Dairy Pak. Mr. Hayes was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church for 45 years. He volunteered in his church by planning trips for the senior citizens in the ìXYZî, helping with construction of the Living Christmas tree and filling fruit baskets for the shut-ins. - Funeral services will be Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Revs.Doug Nix and Trey Martin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Russ and Jeff Robinson, Titus and Gabe Martin, Darren Hayes, Chad McDonald, Chris Amos, and Mace Floyd.
Survivors include his children, Debbie (Jim) Robinson, Marsha (John) Martin and Rodney (Kathy) Hayes; sister, Jean (Hoyt) Vining and a brother, Lofton (Audie) Hayes; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.
