Winterville - Hollis Kimsey, 77, died suddenly on November 21, 2009.
A native of Madison County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Pearl Carithers Kimsey and his grandson, Patrick Brooks. He served as a sergeant with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for 31 years and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Funeral services were Monday, November 23, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his companion for over 40 years, Virginia Lowe McClain; two daughters, Georgia Ann Arisis of Winterville and Patricia Kimsey of Ila; stepchildren, Donna and Chris LaMont of Norfolk, Va., Lynn and Mike Saunders, Tim and Deborah McClain, Matt and Ingrid McClain, all of Winterville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Williard and Marion Kimsey of Toccoa, Melbourne and Alta Kimsey of Calif. and Randall Kimsey of Athens; several nieces and nephews. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association .
