Hillary Aaron Meyers, Jr., 80, of Athens, GA died on September 7, 2025. The son of the late Hillary and Ruth Meyers, Aaron was born on September 26, 1944, in Carnegie, OK and grew up on a farm in Oney. Aaron was an active boy who worked on the family farm, attended Oney School and played basketball and baseball. His baseball team won the 1962 state championship his senior year.
Aaron Meyers is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra Devine Meyers, his son Kevin Meyers (m. Charlotte), and daughters Leaha Meyers Hicks (m. Kendall) and Katie Meyers Bray (m. Eric). He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Kristen Hicks Leach (m. Chris), Kaitlyn Hicks Woodruff (m. Paul), Catherine Bray Wilfong (m. Jack), Andrew Bray, Sarah Meyers Harrell (m. Taylor), Ella Bray, and Anna Meyers. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Emma, James and Ellie. He is also survived by his brothers Edwin and Dwayne Meyers and his sister Annette Dollard and their families.
After marrying Sandra in 1962, he went to Stillwater, OK to attend Oklahoma State University. There he majored in business, was a part of ROTC for two years, and worked to support his family. During the summers, he sold Bibles and Encyclopedias for the Southwestern Co. where he met Spencer Hayes who hired him after graduation to work for the Tom James, Co. He began his career in Atlanta, which was a fairly new office for the company. Through the 40 years he worked there, Aaron grew his division to become one of the best in the country and was also instrumental in opening the first office in their international division in London. His salesmen and customers remember him for his generosity, kindness, professionalism and faith.
Beyond his success at the Tom James, Co., Aaron’s life was defined by his love for God and his family. He invested in his family by spending time with them. Not only did he enjoy playing basketball and softball with friends, he coached his children as well. He loved to hunt, fish and especially play golf. As much as he enjoyed these hobbies, his grandchildren were by far his greatest joy. He always talked about them, showed their pictures, and attended all of their activities.
Although successful in work and blessed in his homelife, Aaron’s biggest legacy is the example he gave in how he served our Lord. Aaron was very active in the churches he attended, including serving as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher for many years. He spoke boldly of his faith and his love for God was not a secret. He was also a big supporter of ministries that reached people for Jesus by starting churches around the world.
Aaron always made sure people knew how special they were, and how much they were loved. He was a leader, mentor and friend to many. He shared Jesus with all he knew. His death has left a hole that cannot be filled.
