Dunwoody

Herman Perry Michael passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025. He was born in Bethlehem, Georgia on April 10, 1937, and grew up in Oconee County. Perry graduated from Bogart High School in 1954, where he was senior class president and played both Varsity basketball and track, and set a record in the 440-yard dash. Perry earned both his BA in accounting and juris doctor from the University of Georgia. During his time in law school, he distinguished himself as Editor-in-Chief of the Georgia Law Review, served as a judge within the university’s moot court program, and was justice-president of Phi Alpha Delta. Following graduation, he served in the United States Air Force as a Judge Adjutant General (JAG), where he honed his commitment to justice and public service. Upon completing his military service, he married Patricia Cagle Michael, his beloved wife of 59 years.

Perry was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, litigator, and public servant who lived a life marked by integrity, purpose, and deep love for those around him. He spent most of his professional career in leadership roles with the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, ultimately serving as Chief Deputy Attorney General, the lead prosecuting attorney of the State of Georgia.

Perry was known for his keen legal mind, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to the people of Georgia. In 1984–1985, he was elected President of the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, a testament to the respect he earned among his peers. A man of faith and community, Perry was an active member of Kingswood United Methodist Church, where he found joy in worship, service, and fellowship.

Perry is survived by his son, Paul Michael and his wife, Alisa; his daughter, Claire Buck, and her husband Keith. Perry was a proud grandfather to four loving granddaughters: Emmaline Michael, Camille Michael Hogan, Megan Sprunger, and Makenzie Buck.

He is now reunited in heaven with his wife, Patricia Cagle Michael. He is also reunited with his parents, Herman C. Michael and Emma Ola Michael. Emma dedicated 38 years to teaching in Oconee County Schools, while Herman served as Chairman of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners for 19 years. The county designated the Herman C. Michael Park honoring Perry’s father’s service.

Perry Michael will be remembered for his sharp intellect, humble strength, and steadfast devotion to his family, faith, and the law. His legacy lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
