Henry Thomas Folsom, 88, a native Floridian, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Born in Monticello, Florida, he was the son of James “Jim” and May Folsom. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he moved back to Monticello, FL to help his family run the family business “Folsom’s”. Then, in July of 1967 he returned to Athens and began his career with Georgia Power. He was a personable Sales Representative for them for over ten years. Then, he joined AFLAC and became known in North Georgia as the “The AFLAC Duck Man” for the last forty-two years.
Henry met his future bride, Mary Lanier and they married in August of 1970. He was highly involved in the Athens community through Athens First United Methodist Church, Athens Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, Barrow Elementary among many others.
Henry cheered on his beloved UGA Bulldogs in every sport. Often on Fall Saturdays, you would find him in Sanford Stadium and Spring Saturdays at the Magill Tennis Courts on campus. For over fifty years, he enjoyed playing tennis and spending time with friends in the neighborhood, at church, and at ADD Drug.
Henry was devoted to his family and he and Mary enjoyed traveling. Then when their daughter, Cassie, came along, they enjoyed spending family time at home, church and many adventures throughout the years.
His daughter, Cassie would like to thank their special friends, Jamie, Carla and Michael who joined her in becoming, “Team Henry” for his caregiving.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, James “Jim” and May Folsom and his beloved wife, Mary. Survivors include his daughter, Cassie, his sister, Eleanor Revell (C.R. Revell (deceased)), James I. Folsom, Jr. (Millie), E. Fenn Folsom (Esther) and his nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the Sexton House at Oconee Hill.
