Harriet V. Mathews

Harriet V. Mathews, cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at the age of 82.

Born in Macon, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Varn and Harriet Hudson Varn. Mrs. Mathews was one of the first five women to graduate from the University of Georgia's School of Pharmacy in 1965.

She worked as a pharmacist at various pharmacies for more than 48 years. Mrs. Mathews enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid animal lover as she owned many beloved pets over the years.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Mathews; children, David Mathews (Linda) and Leigh Segell; grandchildren, Thomas Mathews (Loganne) and Eric Mathews (Haylee); two great-granddaughters, Ryanne and Maelynne and one sister, Kay Chafin (Ted).

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 12:30 until 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Graveside services will immediately follow the visitation at Athens Memory Gardens.
