Gregory "Greg" Robert Bedell of Athens, Georgia, passed away on September 11, 2026, at the age of 72.

Greg was born in New York, and was raised in upstate New York, where, as a young teenager, he spent several years helping his family build a campground in Corinth, New York, the “Gateway to the Adirondacks”, along the Hudson River. It was during those formative years that his love of building began, a passion that would shape both his career and his life.

Out of college, Greg followed that passion by starting a small construction business in Greenfield Center, until 1981, when he moved with his young family to Bogart, Georgia, where he made his home for many decades. Through hard work, determination, and a deep pride in his craft, Greg grew Greg Bedell Construction, Inc. into a business he was proud of and one that reflected his dedication, craftsmanship, and commitment to doing things well.

But Greg’s life was about much more than building. Away from the job site, he enjoyed many hobbies, but he was happiest outdoors. Whether camping, climbing, rappelling, or simply being surrounded by nature, he found joy, peace, and a deep sense of connection in wild places and in the adventure of getting there. Nature offered Greg more than recreation; it was a place where he could slow down, reflect, and feel a spiritual connection to something greater than himself. His love of the outdoors gave him countless opportunities to explore, challenge himself, and create lasting memories with those who shared his sense of adventure.

Above all, Greg loved his family and friends, and he was deeply loved in return. He will be remembered for the life he built, the adventures he shared, the friendships he cherished, and the love he gave so freely to the people who meant the most to him.

A few years before his passing, Greg moved to Athens, where he made his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marilyn Bedell.

Greg is survived by his children, Robert Aaron Bedell and Morgan Bedell Luddeke; his brothers, Mark Bedell, Richard Bedell, and James Bedell; and his sister, Gail Kuhn. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. The light Greg carried within him, the warmth, love, and joy he shared so freely will continue to live on through the people who knew and loved him, and in the many memories they carry with them.
