George Yager

George Donald Yager, 88, of Winterville, GA died peacefully in his home on April 20, 2025. The son of the late Lonnie Ernest and Hattie Louise Yager, George spent his childhood in Moscow, TN.

Along with his parents, George is preceded in death by his wife Anne Yager of 58 years; sisters Eleanor Pruitt and Mary Womack; brother Ernest Yager; and grandson Jacob Andrew Osborne.

George is survived by his daughters Lisa Rich (Tommy) and Donna Wilkes (Stanley); sons Allan Yager (Amanda) and David Yager (Kathryn). As a proud grandfather, George was blessed with twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great – great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Harvey and many nieces and nephews.

After a two years service in the Army, George moved to Athens and retired after 40+ years from the EPA. He later went on to work at the Athens Courthouse parking deck at a job he thoroughly loved. He loved spending time with his family and taking day trips with his wife. His favorite thing to do was bake you his famous pound cake. George was known for his generosity and will be missed by many.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 6PM until 8PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 11AM at Lord and Stephens East Chapel. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
