George E. Nelson

George E. Nelson, cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the age of 76.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, he was a son of the late George Eddy Nelson Sr. and Edna Sheddan Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a Veteran of the United States Army having served from 1966 until 1972. He retired from Oglethorpe Power and was a member of the Carpenter’s Millwright Union. Most importantly, he was an avid outdoorsman and loved his family.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Amelia Coile Nelson; three children, Melissa Nelson Hames (Thunder), Michael Alan Nelson (Heather) and Shannon Marie Nelson; two siblings, Marsha Nelson and Danny Nelson and four grandchildren, Zachary Hames, Michael Nelson, Jr., Will Hames and Faith Massey.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville. Interment will follow in the Collier Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
