George John Faz

January 31, 1946 — July 17, 2025

George John Faz of Crawford, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 17, 4:43 a.m., surrounded by his loved ones. A devoted husband, father, friend, and professional, John leaves behind a legacy of excellence and integrity.

John was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 31, 1946 to Corrine Vargas Faz and George Faz. During his childhood, John’s father moved his family across the United State and overseas. After graduation from Baker High School in Columbus, Georgia, John was accepted to the University of Georgia. Upon graduation from UGA, John married Carolyn Virginia Bryant on August 16, 1969, at Salem Baptist Church, Lexington, Georgia. Their long adventure, which began in Salem that day, moved them from there to Oklahoma. John’s linguistic talents opened additional doors. They moved from there to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, and then back to UGA. In 1974, John joined DEA. He rose through the agency to become a polygraph examiner and by 1996 worked for the Office of International Operations. John had served as SAC for Spain, Portugal, and the Canary Islands before retirement in Washington D.C. in 1996. Each year he worked for the agency, John earned multiple accommodations. Throughout his career, John was respected for his expertise, leadership, and commitment to service and upholding the law.

After retirement, John accepted contract work with private companies and government agencies. Toward the end of his working career, John served as Code Enforcement Officer for Oglethorpe County Georgia.

John is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and his siblings: Amanda Faz Parker and Danny Parker; Margaret Faz Perry; Emily Faz Crumbley and Curtis Crumbley; William Robert Perry; Christopher John Perry; Georgia Knox Parker; Addison Virginia Crumbley; Mary Faz Lehman, Michael A. Faz, and Joseph M. Faz including their spouses and families.
