Listen to Obituary

George Larry Ellis George Larry Ellis, affectionately known as Larry, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on September 13, 1943. Larry devoted more than four decades of his life to the Ford Motor Company, where he worked from 1964 until his retirement in 2006. Known fondly by coworkers as “Bullwinkle,” Larry served as a Welding Inspector and became something of a legend for riding an adult tricycle throughout the plant. His dedication, work ethic, and good humor left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him. Above all else, Larry cherished his family. He was deeply devoted to his wife of nearly 62 years, Linda Jones Ellis, and took immense pride in his two sons, David and Michael. Family was the center of his life, and his love and loyalty were evident to everyone who knew him. Larry had a wide range of passions that reflected his curious and joyful spirit. He loved planes, trains, and Ford automobiles—especially his beautiful 1995 teal Mustang convertible. He was a devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan and could often be found riding around the yard in his golf cart, dining at great restaurants, or relaxing while watching classic westerns. Larry enjoyed collecting watches and eagle statues, playing his guitar and other instruments, and enthusiastically tinkering with computers, iPhones, and GMRS radios. True to his playful personality, he also delighted in adorning just about everything with stickers. Well known throughout Stockbridge and Watkinsville, Larry was easily recognized by his distinctive beard and remembered for his caring, compassionate nature. He never met a stranger and was always ready to stop, speak, and share a moment with anyone he encountered. Larry was preceded in death by his father, George Fletcher Ellis; his mother, Annie Maggie Bruce Ellis; his sisters, Kathryn Lott and Betty Ann Watson; and his beloved son, Michael Henderson Ellis.

Funeral services will be Saturday January 17, 2026 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Homes, West. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home, from 10:00 am to service time. The interment will be in Tifton, GA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Ellis; his son, David (Judy) Ellis; his sister, Mae Beth (Selvyn) Drew; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Goff and Carol Jones; his grandchildren, Lauren (Josh) Childers and Jordan (Abigail) Ellis; and his great-grandchildren, Michael Childers, Mason Childers, Myles Childers, and Felicity Ellis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. Larry will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, sense of humor, and the genuine love he shared with his family and community. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the stories that will continue to be told in his honor.
