George Thomas Durden

George Thomas Durden, 82, of Athens passed away on Tuesday August 17, 2021. Born on December 7, 1938, he was the son of the late Alex and Maybelle Durden.

George was a veteran of the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years of service. He and Barbara loved to travel in their camper and have visited all 50 states. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and most of all he loved the Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 8 siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Durden; son, Randy (Shari) Dillard of Winterville; siblings, Eugene Durden of Watkinsville, Ethel Branson of Florida; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Oconee Chapel at 2370 Hog Mountain Rd in Watkinsville with Pastor Rick Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Interment will take place following the service at Oconee Memorial Park.
