Geni Shiver, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on February 12, 1954, in Panama City, Florida, Geni spent much of her childhood along the shores of Bid-A-Wee Beach, where her lifelong love of the ocean began. She later married the love of her life, Green Shiver, on June 7, 1972, in Asheville, North Carolina. Together they shared over five decades of marriage and countless adventures, including more than 20 years as an Army wife and mother, one of Geni’s greatest joys and proudest callings.
Throughout her life, Geni built a meaningful career marked by dedication and compassion. She began her professional journey working as a Monitor Technician in hospital settings, where her caring nature and attention to detail touched many lives. Later, she joined the Procurement Department at the University of Georgia, where she continued to serve others with integrity and kindness.
Geni had a deep love for her family and found her greatest happiness in watching her children and grandchildren grow. She cherished every moment spent with them and celebrated each of their milestones with pride and joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Al and Betty Davis; and her brothers, Al Jefferson Davis, David Davis, Wayne Shiver, and Jerry Shiver, and her Sister Wanda Hocks Simpsiridis.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Green Shiver; her mother-in-law, Frances Shiver; her children, Annabelle Shiver, Leslie and husband Joshua Pilon, and William and wife Tyler Shiver; and her grandchildren, James (JW) Shiver, David Boyd, Hannah and Christian Feener, Joshua Pilon Jr., Joseph Pilon, Oliver, Daniel Jackson, and William Shiver. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Anna and husband Larry Sponholz, and Jennifer and husband David Munro, along with several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Geni’s passions were as vibrant as her spirit. She loved traveling the world, and time spent fishing and crabbing with her husband, listening to music, enjoying good food, and above all spending time by the water. Her warmth, humor, and kindness touched all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will never fade.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home on Lexington Highway in Athens, Georgia. A celebration of life will follow at 3:00 p.m. at her daughter Leslie’s home in Hull, Georgia.
